Impact on Scientists |
Advantages |
Disadvantages |
The impact that the rover has on its intended audience, which is scientists, is that it helps scientists gather information that would otherwise be inaccessible to human beings. The information the Curiosity collects helps scientists understand Mars better and figure out if life could ever live there. Curiosity impacts its intended audience in a positive way because it helps its audience learn more about Mars.

The advantages of sending a rover to Mars instead of a human is that robots are cheaper to send up to Mars than humans. Sending humans to Mars would cost about 100 billion dollars for 30-40 years, while Curiosity only costed 2.5 billion to build and send. Robots can clear and take samples of potentially hazardous materials that humans can’t handle. Robots can also conduct tasks that are repetitive, this clears up space for humans to perform other tasks.

The disadvantages of having a rover on Mars instead of a human is that the signal for directions take a while to reach Mars. Another disadvantage is that robots take less scientific notes during their mission than what humans could do. The last disadvantage of a robot on Mars is that robots only do what they are programmed to do, humans can react to changes in their environment in space which can give vital information, while robots can’t.
